NEXUS launches router DSP board

The German manufacturer Stage Tec will use the IBTS in Milano to launch a newly redesigned module for the NEXUS audio router product family - the NEXUS Digital Signal Processor board 03.
The NEXUS Digital Signal Processor board 03 brings a variety of extra functions to the NEXUS system. It adds signal processing such as dynamics, graphic EQ, delay, and sum buses to the system. This allows a wide range of applications where you can use NEXUS not only as a digital audio router but, for example, as a delay line for PA systems, as a communications system, and even as a simple audio mixing device.

These features are already familiar to NEXUS users, but the XDSP 03 offers them with unprecedented DSP power, saving both hardware and money. For this, the new XDSP 03 board houses four state-of-the-art Shark DSPs. Mounted on the same board size, the board offers five times more processing power than the existing version, yet maintains the same power consumption. This is an important plus for installations in OB vans and other areas where rack space as well as air conditioning power are limited.

One XDSP 03 board is capable of handling 64 faders, 56 dynamic modules, or 16 sum buses, or combinations of these. The modules are easily controlled via a GUI on any computer within the NEXUS audio network.

The new XDSP 03 can also be controlled by external systems. This was one of the requests of large-scale users including public broadcasters or film facilities where the audio routing and distribution is only one aspect of a complex media installation. With external control, one can now create more extensive audio-follows-video functions such as auto-sync and gain adjustment.
»With this new board, NEXUS is even more flexible than ever before,« says Stephan Salzbrenner, executive director of Stage Tec, outlining the concept of the NEXUS product range. »The system covers all kinds and sizes of audio routers, starting from a small stand-alone unit used as a local router and format converter up to campus-wide installations in production houses, film facilities, broadcast stations or theatres.«

The complete range of Stage Tec products, including the CANTUS digital audio mixing console, the NEXUS digital routing system and the TrueMatch RMC 28-bit A/D converter will be on show on booth 9.1 D01.
